Web 2.0 Awards

Announced May 9, 2007

174 Web 2.0 Sites in 41 Categories

Web 2.0 Award Medal

Rated, Ranked, and Awarded

After scouring the web for Web 2.0 sites both new and old, we developed a "short list" of over three-hundred sites in forty-one categories. From there, we had some of the web's best bloggers, entrepreneurs and business people vote on winners, narrowing the field to 174 place-getters and Honorable Mentions.

12 Interviews with Founders of Winning Sites

The creators of the winning sites share their insight and approach, including technology, funding and methods for attracting traffic.

The inaugural Web 2.0 Awards were staged by SEOmoz in 2006. This third edition was compiled by Jane Copland, SEOmoz's social media expert. The Awards were designed by Ben Bleikamp, with winner's prizes designed by Timothy Christensen.

"We could see that Napster had fulfilled a real need amongst music fans, because there was so much music out there and people didn’t know where to get hold of it, or how to discover new music that they’d like. The music press wasn’t doing it, magazines were closing all the time, and you couldn’t rely on TV or radio either unless your tastes were very mainstream. Once Napster was gone, there was no platform, online or offline, which fulfilled that need, so we decided to make it ourselves."
